Table of Contents
Poached Breakfast Cafe
Of course, the number one place in our ultimate backpacker food guide in Chalong just HAS to be Poached Breakfast Cafe and here’s why!
First and foremost here is the food. With a delicious Melbourne inspired menu that is full of Aussie cafe classics that are made to the highest quality and standard, every dish tastes absolutely spectacular. I seriously have yet to be disappointed by anything I’ve ordered.
Try our phenomenal banana bread. It’s an Aussie staple but here, it’s on another level. It’s warm, it’s moist, it’s fresh and it’s jam packed full of flavour. The drizzle of melty butter on top doesn’t hurt either.
The breakfast dishes here are similarly high standard. I’m talking breakfast burritos with zingy avocado salsa and smokey scrambled eggs or pulled pork breakfast wraps, big fry up breakfasts served with Aussie bush relish, or our yummy smashed avo on fresh sourdough with poached eggs, roasted tomatoes and crumbled feta.

Obviously, you just HAVE to taste our customer (and personal) favourite: our pulled pork eggs benny. Fresh sourdough toast, topped with slow cooked pork shoulder that falls apart to the touch, grated slices of green apple slaw, zippy but rich apple cider hollandaise, creamy poached eggs and fresh mint with pomegranate seeds. It’s only the most luxurious and well-balanced breakfast dish you’ll ever taste.
If you’ve got a sweet tooth, don’t miss out on our yummy apple pie or strawberry delight waffles or our generous stack of French toast that is to die for.
Obviously, some of you might be craving a little healthier brekky option, and we’ve got those in spades. Try our homemade granola in our prana chai parfait, topped with fresh fruit. Or how about our vanilla breakfast panna cotta with seasonal fruit and a delicious raspberry reduction? We’ve got quinoa power porridge, chia pudding, fruit salad and so so much more.

We don’t just serve breakfast either, oh no! This is a breakfast, brunch and lunch type of cafe and we’ve got the yummy goods to show for it. Try one of our delicious, creative sandwiches, bagels or wraps if you’re up for it. We are particularly partial to our pesto, ham and brie sandwich or our halloumi bagel with pan fried halloumi, pickles, onions and smokey bbq cream cheese. HELLO SAILOR!
We’ve also got a whole range of salads that are packed with super fresh ingredients, flavour and our very own homemade dressings that will make the store-bought dressings you might have tasted in your own kitchen blush with embarrassment.
It’s not just food either that makes us top of the list when it comes to our backpacker food guide in Chalong. It’s coffee. We are romancers of coffee. We eat, sleep and dream coffee all day and all night and it shows.

We select only the finest beans from the very best roasters in Phuket. Our baristas, who are highly trained and very passionate, then de-gas and store the beans in a very precise way to make sure we pack the most flavour into your every cup. Then, when they’re ready for brewing, we grind, press and brew our beloved beans into the smoothest, most delicious cuppa you’ll ever taste.
Whether you order an iced coffee, cappuccino, mocha or specialist coffee, you’re about to get blown away by what is categorically the best brew on the island. You’re missing out if you come to Phuket and you don’t try Poached Breakfast Cafe.
Don’t be silly, lean into adventure and come and tuck into breakfast, brunch or lunch right here, in this amazing cafe in the heart of the island.
The Klong Beach Restaurant and Bar
Number 2 on our ultimate backpacker food guide in Chalong has got to be The Klong Beach Restaurant and bar. Relaxed style food with a perfect view of the crystal blue ocean, traditional Thai long tail boats, and stunning islands in the near distance.
Their local food is top tier. Try out their Pad Kha Prow, Tom Kha Kai or their Pad Thai for those who like their spice levels a little lower. If you’re not hungry for Thai food, they’ve also got a selection of western dishes. Of course, these are a little pricer but it’s sometimes necessary when you’re craving a taste of home.
They serve beer in a tankard which feels pretty fun to sip on as you stare out at the peaceful sea. The view and the chilled vibes are why this spot makes it into our backpacker food guide in Chalong.
Chuen Chom Restaurant
There are lots of reasons why Chuen Chom Restaurant makes it into our backpacker food guide in Chalong and the first is the vibe. Cascading rock pools, a peaceful running waterfall, a swimming pool, a Japanese style zen garden and huge glass windows for those who wish to sit indoors – it really is amazing.
They serve some great coffee with lots of fun ingredients but we love their iced Thai tea that comes complete with chocolate straw, whipped cream and edible candy flowers. Talk about sweet!
Of course, they made it onto our backpacker food guide in Chalong because of their food! Their Thai style dishes are delicious. Don’t forget to tuck into their flame grilled chicken with rice and this delicious sticky sauce, or their famous massaman curry. We are also big fans of their satay chicken.
Again, if you’re missing home, they do serve sandwiches and burgers, but they don’t quite carry the taste of home. We much prefer their Thai fare!
Sea Time Café
Last but not least on our backpacker food guide in Chalong is Sea Time Café. This place is little known but serves up some fantastic Thai food. It’s got a stunning view of a beautiful pool and the ocean as well as some beautiful boho decor.
It’s part of the Ao Chalong Villa and Spa so it’s a little more pricey but it’s well worth the experience. Relax and soak up the vibes here any day o the week!
